Why Hate Mondays?

sleepy woman drinking coffeeSo, it’s Monday and I just happened upon an article that listed 20 ways to beat Monday blues. And, I totally agree with them. Mondays are full of newness and excitement. If not, then you’re doing something wrong.

Don’t Worry. Be Happy.

They suggest such things as: wear your cheeriest clothes… listen to happy songs… talk to a friend… buy something new… and so on. But the one I like the best is “have a list of why you’re having the blues”.

Why So Blue

For the writer of that blog, they had a hard time with Monday because of work they didn’t get done on Friday. They go on to suggest that one should finish as much work as they can on Friday so they have less to worry about come Monday. Makes sense to me!

Take This Job and Shove It

My problems ran deeper and solutions seemed nowhere in sight. Before I was my own boss, I worked a day job that I HATED. I literally dragged myself out of bed each morning after hitting the snooze at least 5 times. Why did I hate Mondays (and every workday)? Well, my list was LONG and including everything from not having enough to do although there was so much to do to bureaucratic BS that kept the movers and shakers from moving and shaking anything to everything in between. I felt I was in a dead-end job where either you conform and take advantage of the decent pay, benefits and (sketchy) job security or get fired. Luckily, my line of work is one that easily and cheaply translates into a small business beyond freelancing. In fact, I started a couple of other businesses too.

The American Dream

I’m sure many of you can relate to my baggage. There was a time when we all envisioned a life in which we achieved “The American Dream.” Well, the promise of prosperity and success has turned into a nightmare for many. And this nightmare has them not wanting to get up and face things on Monday. If you too are in dire straits like I was, why not consider this cure for the Monday blues?  Start your own business in mobile media! It’s easy and if you startup-up before Dec. 31, 2011, you can take advantage of this year’s home-based business tax breaks. In addition to Shel-Shok (established in 2006), I recently started a new business called Green Matter, an environmental education company designed to encourage people of all ages to THINK with their brains (gray matter), bring about CHANGE (living greener) and take steps to get involved to SPREAD awareness about the environment. We making learning science fun by using “bug ambassadors” (live arthropods – insects, spiders, scorpions, etc.) as attention-getters, teaching tools and role models.

Welcome Distractions

My tip ties right in with the other blogger’s final suggestion but their’s gave me a bit of a chuckle:

20. Do not get distracted. Youtube, Facebook, personal emails. Once you allow yourself to get distracted you will be sucked into hours of time-wasting activities. If you don’t have the discipline to limit your distraction to 10 minutes, don’t attempt to do it at all. Reading blogs like this is another time-sucker so now that you’ve reach the bottom of the list, why don’t you get working! :)

So many of us spend our days multi-tasking and tending to our business social media sites, yet we get sucked into the matrix and find no way out until EOB (end of the business day). Hah! But if you’re reading my blog, I’m glad that you got distracted and hopefully you found something useful and life-changing. ;-) Now get to work on that new business that’ll have you hopping out of bed singing “Happy Monday” and excited for what the day (week and year) may bring.
